Cookie policy.

Last updated: May 2026. The very small set of cookies and analytics this site uses, and why.

In short

  • We set one strictly-necessary cookie (to remember you dismissed the banner).
  • We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not identify you.
  • No advertising cookies, no third-party trackers, no fingerprinting.
  • You can opt out of the banner cookie by clearing your browser’s storage at any time.

1. What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to remember. Cookies are commonly used to remember preferences, to keep you signed in, to track you across sites for advertising, or (in our case) to remember that you have dismissed a banner.

2. Cookies we set on this site

We set exactly one cookie, as part of the cookie banner. We do not use any other cookies.

  • Name: ognell-cookies · Type: strictly necessary · Stored in: your browser’s localStorage (technically a storage entry rather than a cookie, but treated as a cookie under PECR) · Purpose: to remember that you have dismissed the banner so we do not show it to you again · Lifetime: until you clear your browser storage.

3. Analytics: Cloudflare Web Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand which pages of the site are read and for how long. This tool is cookieless: it does not place any cookie in your browser. It does not collect IP addresses, does not fingerprint your device, and does not build a profile of your activity across sites.

What Cloudflare Web Analytics tells us:

  • Which pages of our site have been visited, and how long the visit lasted;
  • The country your visit came from (e.g. United Kingdom, United States);
  • The type of device (desktop, tablet, mobile) and the browser family;
  • The referring site (e.g. you came from the Charity Commission website).

It does not tell us who you are. We aggregate visits across 14-month windows and use the data only to understand which content is being read.

4. Cookies we do not set

  • No advertising cookies.
  • No marketing cookies.
  • No social-media tracking pixels (Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc.).
  • No third-party analytics other than Cloudflare.
  • No A/B testing cookies.

5. Embedded third-party content

The contact page embeds a map from OpenStreetMap. OpenStreetMap is a community project and does not place cookies through this embed. When the map loads, your browser will request map tiles from openstreetmap.org; that request will be logged by OpenStreetMap in line with their privacy policy.

Our newsletter signup uses Mailchimp (only after you submit the form). Mailchimp may set its own cookies on the form submission page; their cookie policy applies.

6. How to opt out

The single cookie we set is strictly necessary and can be cleared by emptying your browser’s storage for ognellcharity.org. Most browsers offer a “clear site data” option in their site settings menu. Cloudflare Web Analytics, being cookieless, cannot be opted out of at the cookie level; if you would prefer not to be counted in the aggregate analytics, you can use a privacy browser (Firefox, Brave) with strict tracking protection.

7. Changes to this policy

If we add a new cookie or analytics tool, we will update this page and the cookie banner. We will not silently introduce trackers.

8. Questions and complaints

Write to [email protected]. Your right to complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113 is set out in our privacy notice.
